This is a tool that is located on the Management section of the Edit tab.
Function
The Edit Rules interface () is used to view and modify the validation rules in the system.
Controls
This interface hosts these controls:
Control | Used To... |
Validation Rules Type Dropdown | Switch between different Rule Type categories (if more than one is available). |
Reset Selected Rule to Default Button | Revert the selected rule to its default state. |
Reset All Rules to Defaults Button | Revert all rules to their default state. |
Rules List Table (Table 1) | Provide a list of all data items, error types, and failure messages for the selected Rule Type. |
Delete All Selected Link | Delete the selected rules in the Rule List table; use in conjunction with the table checkboxes. |
Add Rule Link | Add a new row to the Rule List table to create a new rule. |
Rule Definition Table (Table 2) | Add rule criteria to a selected data item and Rule Type. |
Left/Right Condition Tables (Tables 3 & 4) | Add condition criteria to a selected rule criterion and specify the condition type, value, and arithmetic operator. |
Save Changes Button | Save changes to a selected rule. |
Discard Changes Button | Discard the changes to a selected rule. |
Edit a Rule
To edit a rule, the user must follow these steps:
- Select a data item in the Data Item column (Table 1).
- Edit the failure message by clicking into the textbox and adding a message (Table 1).
- After selecting a data item, use the Rules Definition Table (Table 2) to add criteria by clicking the "+" button on the left-hand side of the table. The plus sign will be located on the "+/-" column on the last, empty row. Alternately, edit an existing criterion by clicking on its row.
- Use the Left Condition Table to edit the Left Condition column in the Rule Definition Table (Table 3).
- Use the Right Condition Table to edit the Right Condition column in the Rule Definition Table (Table 4).
- Use the Join and Parentheses options in the Rule Definition Table to group or create condition rule criteria (Table 2).
- Use the Rule Definition Table to delete a criterion with the "X" button if desired (Table 2).
- After editing the desired rule, click the “Save Changes” button.
