When the user opens the Inventory Manager application, three functional areas will be on display: (1) Map Frame, (2) Legend Menu, and (3) Tabs and Control Ribbon. Each of these are shown in the image below, with corresponding numbers to the list above.
(1) Map Frame
The Map Frame is used to display the roadways, Inventory data, and query results in graphic form. A variety of controls are provided to permit the user to zoom to an area of interest on the map frame.
(2) Legend Menu
The Legend Menu displays a list of available map layers that can be turned on/off by clicking the appropriate checkbox. The legend menu is displayed upon opening the application, but it can be hidden/re-opened by clicking the arrow control (carat) to its immediate right.
(3) Tabs and Control Ribbon
The Inventory Manager has 7 tabs: Map, Edit, Road, Rail, Bridge, Reports, and System Administration. Each tab contains a set of icons displayed in ribbon format. When a tab is selected, the corresponding set of icons is displayed. These icons are sectioned on the tab's ribbon by general function. For example, the Rail tab hosts seven icons that are categorized into three sections: Data, Evaluate, and System Administration. Similarly, the other six tabs have icons which are categorized into sections.
