This tool is located on the System Administration section of the Rail tab.
Function
The Code Lists interface () allows a system administrator to maintain the relevant railroad crossing code lists.
Code Lists
A code list is a set of items that have at least two pieces of information: a description and an associated database code. The purpose of a code list is to present system users with a descriptive text instead of the short database code that is stored in the database table. For example, a "county" code list would allow the user to select "Abbeville" from a code list instead of the code "1."
Layout
The Code List Maintenance interface is divided into two sections:
- Code List Summary - List all entries currently defined in the selected code list.
- Code List Edit - Edit code list fields or add a new code list entry.
Controls
There are some controls offered in this interface which help navigation and use of the system.
Control | Used To... |
Code List Dropdown | Choose which available railroad crossing code list to display. |
Double Up/Down Arrows | Move the selection to the first/last code list entry. |
Single Up/Down Arrow | Move the selection to the above/below code list entry. |
Add New Code Button | Add a new code list entry to the current code list. |
Sort Codes A-Z Button | Sort the code list in alphabetical order by Code Name. |
Save Changes Button | Save all changes of the current code list to the database. |
Discard Changes Button | Discard any changes made to the code list and reset the fields back to the original values since the last save. |
Edit Code List
If the user wishes to edit the current code list, they can click on the desired entry in the Code List Summary table. Then, they can edit its four fields (ID, Name, Description, and Obsolete Code), and any unique fields to the entry, as desired. The table below lists descriptions of these four fields.
Field | Description |
ID | This read-only field defines the unique code associated with a code list entry. |
Name | This field defines the user-friendly, displayed name for the code. |
Description | This field defines the order in which each code appears in all drop-down lists. |
Obsolete (Checkbox) | This field is used to denote if the code is obsolete and no longer allowed to be used in the system. |
Add Code List
If the user wishes to add a new code list entry, they can click the Add New Code button at the bottom left of the interface. This action will clear the code list fields in the Code List Edit section. Then, the user can edit the Name, Description, and Obsolete fields. Once these fields are satisfactorily filled, the user can click the "Save Changes" button.
